Black History Month

In February, we celebrated Black History Month with a dynamic, student-centered program highlighting the rich traditions of the African diaspora, and the towering contributions of Black artists, scholars, icons, innovators, and leaders throughout American history.

Lunar New Year 2022!

恭喜發財! Northern Light School kicked off this Lunar New Year with a bang! We had a very special performances from the Cal VSA Lion Dance Team and from the Cal Fei Tian Dancers.

Native American Heritage Month

In November we honored Native American Heritage Month, and took a more classroom centered approach to how students engage with the histories of our country’s Indigenous communities.

LatinX Heritage Month

Northern Light School honors and celebrates the countless contributions, powerful influence, and critical impact the LatinX community has had on American history, culture, and achievements. We have put together an exciting month of LatinX presenters, vibrant performances, school art projects, classroom curriculum, and more!

Homie's Empowerment Holiday Donation Drive

Northern Light School is excited to announce our 2nd Annual Holiday Donation Drive in partnership with Homie’s Empowerment. Homie’s Empowerment is a youth and community development organization founded in 2009. They serve over 400 families in the Bay Area and give away over $20K in food every week. This winter they’re working on their “FREEdom Store” where everything is free to Bay Area residents. Northern Light School is excited to partner with Homie’s Empowerment in meeting their goals.

2nd Annual Ann Maier Giving Tree

Join us for our 2nd annual Ann Maier Giving Tree Celebration! The official tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 16, 2021, at 6:00 pm and is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday and celebrate this season of giving! Join students, faculty, and alumni at Northern Light School for special performances of music, dance, and spoken word!

Future Voter Project

When you read about the history of Northern Light, one thing clearly stands out above the rest: this community develops students who are engaged and empowered – not just as students, but as citizens!

Our Friend Vida Blue!

Play ball! Our friend and legendary MLB pitcher, Vida Blue, sits down on The Vida Blue Field of Dreams to discuss his legacy on and off the field. He was known for being the hardest-throwing lefty and first African-American pitcher to start an All-Star game, but what’s even more inspiring than his career is his generosity and desire to give back.

NLS Partners with Cars 2nd Chance!

Do you or anyone you know have a car, boat, or RV (running or not) that isn’t being used? Donate it to Cars 2nd Chance to raise money for Northern Light and the greater community!
