Student Life
At Northern Light, students don’t just learn, they grow as thoughtful, empathetic, and socially conscious individuals. Our classrooms and programs emphasize equity, inclusion, and cultural understanding, giving every child the tools to make a positive impact in their community and the world.
From Spanish and cultural studies to Advisory discussions on current events, students explore diverse perspectives and develop critical thinking skills. We celebrate cultural heritage months and integrate them into our daily programming, helping students connect with and honor the rich diversity of the communities around them. Our Physical Education and wellness programs teach teamwork, resilience, and emotional awareness, ensuring students thrive physically, mentally, and socially.
Students are encouraged to find their voice, take on leadership roles, and advocate for justice - on stage, in the classroom, on the field, and through meaningful community engagement. At Northern Light, every child feels seen, valued, and empowered to grow into a confident, compassionate leader.
A Rich and Balanced Education
At Northern Light, we go beyond strong academics in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Humanities. Our students explore a wide range of classes that broaden their horizons, spark creativity, and cultivate global awareness.
Finding Their Voice
Students at Northern Light are encouraged to think critically, express themselves, and understand their power to make a difference in the world. Whether on stage, on the field, in the classroom, or through community service, students are supported in developing their voice, leadership, and commitment to justice. Our programs emphasize empathy, equity, and civic responsibility, empowering students to act thoughtfully and intentionally in their communities.
A Commitment to Inclusion, Equity, and Belonging
We are proud to be a school where every child feels valued, cherished, and empowered. Our commitment to gender inclusivity, LGBTQ+ affirmation, and anti-racist education ensures that all students can safely express their identities and thrive as their authentic selves. Diversity, equity, and social justice are not just principles - they are woven into every aspect of our school culture, from classroom discussions to student leadership and community engagement.
Advisory & Leadership
Weekly Advisory sessions provide students with space to discuss current events, explore social issues, and practice leadership in an inclusive environment. Middle school students take on leadership roles within the community, discovering their strengths and learning how to use them to uplift others and promote equity.
Wellness & Social-Emotional Learning
The well-being of our students is at the heart of everything we do. Through Wellness and Support blocks, teachers provide tools for managing stress, emotions, and relationships, ensuring every child has the guidance and care they need to thrive. Our faculty help students build resilience, emotional awareness, and social responsibility through the CASEL core competencies - skills that equip them to navigate challenges and advocate for justice throughout their lives.
