Ann Maier Giving Tree

Please join Cornell C. Maier, CEO Kaiser Aluminum (Retired) and the Northern Light School community for the First Annual Ann Maier Giving Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Celebration!

Cornell Maier has been an invaluable part of Northern Light School since 1990, and in the school’s founding years, shared his love of the children with his family, most especially, his mother, Ann Maier.

Ann, born in 1902, believed in the importance of helping others and supporting the community. Cornell and his sister Virginia were taught to embrace a spirit of altruism, and were reminded of the responsibility to always give to others—regardless of how little or how much one may have. This year, Northern Light School has chosen to honor Ann’s sense of generosity and celebrate the lessons of kindness and philanthropy she shared with Cornell and Virginia.

A beautiful, 18-foot tall evergreen from the Pacific Northwest, the Ann Maier Giving Tree will stand tall on the Northern Light campus in celebration of the holidays. It is not only a celebration of the goodness of one woman’s impact on the lives of so many others, it is a wonderful opportunity for you to honor and acknowledge someone special to you, all while giving back to the community—just as Ann would have encouraged each one of us to do!

A gift of $25 or more will place a light on the Ann Maier Giving Tree and benefit academic, artistic, and athletic programs for children in preschool through grade eight at Northern Light School in Oakland, California. Sponsorships of this event are greatly appreciated, and a wonderful way to acknowledge those near and dear to your heart. Every sponsorship will be recognized in promotional advertisements, a commemorative printed program, and on Northern Light School’s social media platforms. Major sponsorships of $500-$5,000 will receive a special ornament from the inaugural tree lighting ceremony, as well as recognition on decorative gift boxes under the tree. Acknowledgment cards will be sent to those being honored and to families whose loved ones are being memorialized.

The official tree lighting ceremony will take place on December 21, 2020. A COVID-19 friendly-event, you can choose to participate by tuning in to the official livestream, or by joining Cornell for a drive-in celebration at Northern Light School. This event is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday and celebrate this season of giving. Please explore the sponsorship and giving opportunities attached. You can use the order form to purchase lights or make a sponsorship pledge. We look forward to celebrating with you, and thank you for joining in Ann’s spirit of generosity.

Online orders via PayPal are also welcome. After receiving your order a member of our team will contact you for details on the person(s) you would like to honor.
