Science-Fifth Grade Assignments

Complete each task. Answer the questions on Slide 6 and drag and drop the vocabulary words on slide 7 to complete each sentence.

Here is the final assessment for our unit on mixtures and solutions. You can use your work packet to help you with any questions. Please take your time reading each question carefully before answering.

When you are finished, you can use the rest of class time to make sure your packet is complete, and all assignments have been turned in Google Classroom.

Problem: We need to find a way to drink ocean water
Solution: Design a machine that will separate the salt from the water

Directions:
1. Talk with your group about how you could solve the problem. Decide on a single idea/or combine multiple ideas to come to a final model that your group thinks might work.
2. Open up your Jamboard
3. Draw a model of the machine you have created
4. Then list the steps the machine uses to filter out the salt
5. Describe why this machine would work. Would it be expensive? How much ocean water can it convert to freshwater? Is it quick or slow?

Please observe your shadow at two different times of the day. If you have an adult with you, you can use the chalk to sketch your shadow at both times, standing in the same place. Sketch a drawing in your notebook and answer the three questions.
