Cai Freeman

Cai Freeman is a performer, educator, creative, and a proud Oakland native. She has an extensive background in the performing arts, with training in vocal music, dance, and theatre. Cai grew up singing in choirs and performing solo vocal work.

Cai earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Performance, with a minor in Business Studies from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. She has studied dance styles: jazz, tap, West African, hip-hop, musical theatre, and ballet through various programs in the Bay Area and Boston, MA. Additionally, Cai writes original music, and her work has been arranged and performed in Oakland's Free Key Choir.

This year, she launched the program by teaching musical theatre techniques and curriculum. She has produced and directed a student variety show and a full production of Shrek Jr., where she was responsible for directing, casting, costumes, theatre tech, advertising, and program design. In addition to her work at Julia Morgan, Cai supports the Oakland Youth Chorus with choreography and social media.

Cai is passionate about keeping the arts alive in all levels of education. She believes in the importance of both in-school classes (STEAM) and after-school art electives. She is committed to nurturing young artists through vocal music, dance, acting, and creative exploration.
