Student Life

Students at Northern Light School, a leading independent school, experience a rich blend of artistic, athletic, and academic pursuits.

Beyond the core subjects of Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, all students in grades K-8 take Spanish and P.E. a minimum of twice a week.  Students in grades K-5 learn to read music, play the recorder, and perform in a chorus; middle school students can elect to pursue their passion for music by participating in an NLS Songbook elective.  Other middle school electives include High School Preparation, VEX IQ Robotics, Watershed Exploration, Video Production, Coding, and Soccer & Statistics.

P.E. classes focus on teaching students fundamental skills and emphasize the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.  Because we are such a small school, almost all of our middle school boys and girls participate on at least one of our competitive soccer, basketball, volleyball, or track teams.

Through all of their pursuits, NLS students are encouraged to develop their own voices, to think critically, and to understand that they have the power to make a difference in the lives of others.
