Pre-School
Northern Light School's Preschool Program is Montessori-based. Children in this program participate in learning experiences that foster independence. By using self-correcting activities and materials displayed on accessible shelving, children work in designated areas. Throughout the duration of the academic year, preschool children evolve into a working community that fosters high concentration. Each activity encourages the development of self-discipline and an orderly, focused character in the preschool child. By working on activities repeatedly in specific areas of practical life, sensorial, mathematical, cultural, and language arts development, the Northern Light School preschool child becomes academically, intellectually, and socially competent.
Kindergarten
The kindergarten program at Northern Light School encourages its children to learn through experience. The course of study is concentrated in encountering the world inside and outside the classroom and furthering development in the areas of science, language and culture. The mathematics program supports and challenges the thinking of the kindergarten children and prepares them for the course of study in the first grade. As reading and writing skills are developed in the first months of learning, kindergarten children learn to express their identity through written and verbal communication throughout the course of the academic year.
